Atom Kits


These versatile atom kits provide for hand-on exploration of inorganic compounds LetÕs face it Ð there is simply no substitute for the understanding a student will achieve by actually building molecular compounds themselves. These fun and easy to use kits allow students to experiment with different bonding types while learning fundamental chemical concepts. We have designed these kits carefully so that each "atom" (colored ball) can only form the type of bonds that are possible in nature. The unique design of the different types of bond representations (i.e. round holes for single bonds and square holes for double bonds) demonstrates restricted rotation. Even complete chemical reactions can be reproduced! Molecular construction sets come in four versions, each one consisting of more ÒatomsÓ and thus allowing more complex and sophisticated reconstructions. All demonstrate the fundamental concepts of atomic bonding such as the physical and chemical significance of bond lengths and Van der WaalÕs radii and fores. Moreover the student learns the value of constructional models as an aid to study. The Research Construction Kit is sophisticated enough to be used for true research applications such as the pre-evaluation of the risk of stearic hindrance in a specific reaction.


Introductory Molecular Construction Set- W16007

Consisting of 69 atoms and 16 bonds, this set can be used to build such structures as:

  • Molecules of hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen and chlorine
  • Oxides of hydrogen, carbon, nitrogen, sulphur
  • Hydrogen chloride, sulphuric acid, nitric acid, carbonic acid
  • Saturated hydrocarbons with up to 9 carbon atoms, hydrocarbons with double and triple bonds, cyclic hydrocarbons
  • Different types of alcohol Aldehydes, carboxylic acids, amino acids

Advanced Molecular Construction Set - W16006

Consisting of 109 atoms and 24 bonds, this set can be used to build such structures as:
  • Hydrogen compounds with oxygen, nitrogen, phosphorus, sulphur, chlorine and bromine
  • Oxides of hydrogen, nitrogen, phosphorus, sulphur and corresponding acids
  • Hydrocarbon compounds with up to 16 carbon atoms, straight chain, branched and cyclic

Molecular Construction Class Kit - W16005

This Molecular Construction Kit consists of 16 boxes of student sets in a sturdy wooden case. Each box contains 21 atoms and 4 bonds. This kit contains 16 laminated sheets (32 x 47cm) with fully detailed instructions for students. Of course the sets can be combined to provide greater versatility and more complex constructions.
